OSGeo-PH and the PhilGEOS 2012 Organizing team to host a series of pre-symposium workshops on Nov. 22

OSGeo-PH and the PhilGEOS Organizing team will host a series of pre-symposium workshops showcasing free and open source technologies.

This one-day workshop (to be held on November 22, 2012) can be considered as the very first Free and Open Source Software for Geospatial (FOSS4G) event in the country.

These workshops are FREE. Priority will be given to registered PhilGEOS participants until November 12, 2012. After that, registration will be open to all. You may want to register first to PhilGEOS 2012.

Two more plenary speakers for PhilGEOS 2012

Two more plenary speakers recently confirmed for PhilGEOS 2012. They are:

Dr. Rhodora M. Gonzalez, Associate Professor in the Department of Geodetic Engineering, College of Engineering, University of the Philippine, Diliman, Quezon City.

Dr. Hiroyuki Miyazaki, Project Researcher, The University of Tokyo, Japan.

Dr. Gonzalez will talk about Geomatics Education, while Dr. Miyazaki will introduce The Earth Observation Data Integration and Fusion Research Initiative.

Dr. Enrico Paringit, DREAM Program Leader, to speak during PhilGEOS 2012

Dr. Enrico C. Paringit, Associate Professor at the Department of Geodetic Engineering, University of the Philippines, will be one of the plenary speakers during the PhilGEOS 2012. The title of his talk is “Entering a New Era of Remote Sensing in the Philippines: Perspectives, Prospects and Challenges“.

Dr. Paringit heads a Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-funded project called Disaster Risk Exposure Assessment Mitigation (DREAM) Program which aims to acquire spatial data or geographic information of 18 major river basins of the Philippines (which is at least one third of the country’s total land area) using Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) technology.  The data acquired will be used to develop flood hazard models that would produce detailed and updated flood hazard maps for critical river systems.  >>Read more >>
